The partnership between Arbeitsgemeinschaft Notfallmedizin Fürth e.V. and Association of Ambulance Professionals Uganda (AAPU) Ltd is focused on accredited training in paediatric emergency medicine. The partners are building on their predecessor project, which targeted adults.\r
\r
Context: \r
Newborns and young children are an especially vulnerable population group in Uganda, as primary medical care is not geared to their needs. 25% of them die due to insufficient or non-existent resuscitation measures. Demand for paediatric emergency care is high throughout the country. \r
\r
Activities:\r
- Training for Ugandan health professionals, including participants from outside of Kampala, delivered by the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), using new equipment\r
- Train-the-trainer and newborn-life-support courses\r
- Life-support and European Paediatric Advanced Life Support training\r
- Accreditation of trainer qualifications\r
- Course for instructors to enable ECC Uganda to establish itself as an independent training authority\r
\r
Results:\r
Survival rates for paediatric patients improve at numerous health institutions in Uganda thanks to better emergency care. ECC Uganda is awarded course-director status for paediatric life support courses, allowing it to conduct such training independently in future.
