Malteser International and the Uganda Martyrs' Hospital Lubaga in Uganda are working within this project to promote knowledge-sharing and mutual learning between trainee nurses from two nursing colleges in Uganda and the Malteser Berufsfachschule für Pflegekräfte Duderstadt, a nursing school in Lower Saxony. The exchange centres on outpatient care and responding flexibly as a health system in a pandemic context. \r

Background: \r
The Ugandan population continues to get older, with a marked rise in cases of dementia and non-communicable illnesses. Against this backdrop, outpatient care, which is still not very common in Uganda, is becoming increasingly important. Consequently, nursing staff need to develop skills in outpatient care, and home care concepts must be created. Learners from Germany are discovering how the Ugandan health system is able to respond flexibly to pandemics, in some cases dictated by necessity.\r

-\tDevelopment and establishment of online courses on outpatient care for the Ugandan trainee nurses, and on pandemics, tropical diseases and the Ugandan health system for the German learners\r

Impact: \r
The learning management system provides the participating institutions, their learners and others with a long-term, free, easily accessible and comprehensive information portal, and also serves as a platform for dialogue between those same groups.
