The continuation of the hospital partnership between the Afghanisch-Deutscher A¨rzteverein Weimar (ADAV) e.V. and the NGO Health Efficient Treatment Organisation (HEALTHO) aims to pursue the use of e-learning courses for Afghan medical students and to incorporate the teaching videos provided by the company Lecturio into the Afghan medical curriculum in order to improve the quality of teaching.

Background:
One of the key problems of the Afghan health care system is the inadequate training of doctors. Since university lecturers have to adhere to the ministry-approved curricula and outdated textbooks, the training lacks a critical examination of learning content and a link between teaching and medical practice. The biggest challenge is the state recognition and inclusion of the Lecturio teaching videos in the statutory curriculum.

Activities:
- Setting up an additional lecture theatre at Herat University for Lecturio teaching videos
- Providing training to lectures at the universities in Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif and Herat
- Holding talks with the ministries with regard to changing the curriculum

Impact:
Access to the learning units is designed to enable more than 1,000 students to improve their education and to achieve a level of acceptance for this learning system among the responsible ministries. In the long term, the inclusion of the learning videos in the curriculum is intended to bring about a sustainable improvement in medical practice in Afghanistan.
