The partnership project between the organization, Ärzte für Madagaskar e.V. and the Comité rég. Pour la lute contre la tuberculose et la lèpre, aims to improve the access, reliability and quality of tuberculosis diagnostics and treatment of TB and multi-drug-resistant Tuberculosis (MDR- TB) in southern Madagascar.
Problem: Southern Madagascar faces challenges regarding the treatment and diagnosis of TB and MDR-TB. This is attributed to lacking qualified medical personnel, infrastructure, limited education opportunities for medical personnel, and insufficient maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Main Activities: The primary activities of the project are the acquisition of laboratory devices (i.e. LED microscopes) and trainings regarding the utilization and maintenance of equipment. Trainings for the identification and treatment of TB and MDR-TB will be offered at 15 treatment centers.
Short-Term Effects: The quality of care in the selected treatment centers will be improved through trainings provided to medical personnel as well as the acquisition and maintenance of laboratory devices.
Long-Term Effects: The population of the Atismo-Andrefana region will benefit from the improved coverage of TB diagnostics, treatment and reduction of new infections.
