The continuation of the hospital partnership between the Bethanien Krankenhaus Chemnitz gGmbH and the Ganta United Methodist Hospital aims to improve patient safety and care in Liberia by interacting with other institutions and by modernising its medical products and equipment.
Background:
The hospital in Ganta cares for patients from Liberia, Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire, making it a key partner in the infrastructure of the regional health care sector. The hospital suffers from a lack of established local medical technical support as only medical technicians from abroad currently carry out the most necessary repairs and maintenance work on medical equipment. The medical technology available is outdated and only some of it is functional.
Activities:
-\tArranging 3-4 visits by the German partners to Liberia in order to assist the establishment of the workshop and the drawing up of the device directory
-\tLiberian doctors visit Germany to get an idea of how the potential devices are used
-\tFitting out the workshop, acquiring testing and measurement devices
Impact:
The availability of medical equipment is expected to make the treatment of patients easier and ensure that it can be carried out in a safer and more efficient manner. The quality of care and patient safety is thus to be improved in the surrounding area in the long term.
