Within the scope of their cooperation arrangement, the association For-Eritrea e.V. and the Eritrean National Health Laboratory have set themselves the goal of establishing a tissue diagnostics facility.
Problem: Proper medical care calls for a rapid, well developed tissue diagnostics system. While in Germany, most hospitals have a pathology department, Eritrea has no pathologists. That is why a tissue diagnostics unit is to be established in Eritrea.
Main activities: German and Eritrean partners intend to set up a pathology laboratory together. It is to be enabled to produce a result within seven days. Laboratory staff are to be employed and appropriately trained. Fine needle aspiration biopsy methods are to be learned and established at the laboratory. It is initially to be supported by German partners in Eritrea, and subsequently support and advice will be provided using telemedicine facilities.
Short-term results: Initially, a properly equipped tissue diagnostics laboratory is to be established and staff trained in the various diagnostic techniques.
Long-term results: The Eritrean health system is to be improved through the introduction of pathology services.
