In the partnership project between Zomba Hospital Projekt e.V. and Zomba Central Hospital in Malawi an interdisciplinary emergency medicine unit is to be established.
Problem: Under-funding of the health sector in Malawi by the state has caused a serious shortage of medical care. This is particularly dramatic in the field of emergency medicine.
Main activities: The partnership project aims to set up an emergency medicine unit at Zomba Central Hospital that is to operate according to standardised routines. Predefined diagnostics, equipment and trained personnel are to ensure appropriate patient care. After the necessary construction of the emergency medicine unit, Malawian professionals are to undergo intensive training and treatment guidelines are to be developed.
Short-term results: The emergency medicine unit is to be restructured using standardised operations and diagnostics.
Long-term results: Patient care in emergency medicine is to be significantly improved and the chances of survival and recovery of patients improved.
