The aim of the cooperation between the Institute of General Medicine at the University of Tübingen, the German Institute for Medical Mission and the medical facilities of the Communauté Evangélique au Centre de l'Afrique (CECA 20) is to improve the care of patients with arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Background: Due to recurring armed conflicts in the east of the DRC, there is a lack of state health services. The CECA 20 health facilities fill essential gaps in health care. The DRC's national health strategy aims to reduce the mortality rate from non-communicable diseases. The focus is on arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Activities: - Online learning units and workshops on pathophysiology, diagnostics, therapy and prevention of diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension - Discussions on disease management programmes - Introduction of therapy standards - Establishment of consultation hours for the chronically ill - Supervision and digital case discussions Impact: Health care for people with arterial hypertension or diabetes mellitus improves. In future, the use of medication for non-infectious diseases should be oriented towards the therapy standard.
