The partnership between the German Cancer Society (DKG) and the University of Georgia seeks to establish a cancer care network based on the EU project Innovative Partnership for Action Against Cancer (iPAAC) in order to improve care provision for oncology patients.

Context:
Cancer is one of the main causes of death in Georgia. Men frequently die of lung cancer and women of breast or cervical tumours. Patients have very limited access to expensive and multidisciplinary treatment. Consequently, it is important to have internationally recognised national treatment standards to advance treatment quality.

Activities:
- Local visit to Georgia to prepare further meetings and identify potential network partners
- Preparations for a conference on oncology care: initial contact, invitation of participants and creation of conference documents
- Running the conference for doctors, nurses, researchers, hospital managers and policy-makers
- Final identification of network partners, evaluation of the process and preparations for the next steps in establishing the cancer care network
- Creation and dissemination of a process report

Results:
Better care provision for oncology patients in Georgia will reduce mortality rates within the population. The development of a long-term network will promote multidisciplinary cooperation in the region.
