Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the BG Kliniken hospitals in Frankfurt am Main, Ludwigshafen and Berlin are working with a number of partners, including the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, Kharkiv Medical University and Sheptytsky Hospital in Lviv, to set up easily accessible online training for healthcare professionals in Ukraine. Since the collaboration was established in May 2022, the partners have, for example, organised transports of medicine to Ukraine and held training sessions.\r
\r
Background:\r
The war in Ukraine has made it difficult for medical students and doctors to receive professional education and training. Many of the buildings used by medical institutions have been destroyed, transport is severely limited, and hospital staff find themselves dealing with the medical impacts of the war, such as injuries and traumatisation. Despite these challenges, it is vital to ensure that medical training continues so that people receive the care they need now and in the medium and long term.\r
\r
Activities:\r
-\tPreparation of 50 hours of online teaching material in the areas of traumatology, rehabilitation, mental \r
health and pain management in Ukrainian, Russian, English and German\r
-\tTechnical work to set up a hospital partnership hub and upload training content\r
-\tCertification of the training content by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health\r
\r
Results:\r
The project helps to maintain medical education and training in Ukraine under the difficult wartime conditions. The target is for 200 medical professionals to have completed one of the four online courses by the end of the project term. The hub is to be used over the long term for medical education and training in various fields. The course content can be easily translated into other languages and adapted to other national contexts.\r
