The hospital partnership project between the University Hospital Tübingen and the Centre Hospitalier Regionale in Sokodé, Togo, will implement advanced diagnostic procedures for the detection of SARS-COVID-19 in the Togolese hospital. In order to detect viral RNA via reverse transcription followed by real-time PCR, standardised procedures for RNA isolation and virus detection must be implemented, also for the purpose of protecting laboratory staff. Although the Togolese Ministry of Health has provided a real-time PCR device, the SARS-CoV-2 PCR station has not yet been put into operation due to a lack of suitable laboratory space and a shortage of necessary equipment and reagents that are essential for commissioning the station. Moreover, the technical laboratory staff does not have the specialist knowledge and expertise that is necessary to isolate the virus and perform the real-time PCR technique in order to detect pathogens of infection prevention and control levels 2 and 3**. \r

Equipment, medical consumables, and reagents will be requested for the project and advanced diagnostic procedures will be implemented to detect SARS-COVID-19. The implementation of repeated training courses will provide the staff with the required skills for handling replicable pathogens, which will also strengthen the diagnostic capabilities of the hospital beyond SARS-CoV-2, such as for sexually transmitted infections like HIV\/AIDS, tuberculosis, and Buruli ulcer.\r
