An interdisciplinary team from Pius Hospital Oldenburg, the Department of Cardiac Surgery at University Hospital Oldenburg and the association Christliche Medizinische Hilfe Direkt is providing support for the state-run Oleksandrivska hospital in Kyiv so that it can continue to perform operations and care for patients who need immediate medical help due to cardiovascular emergencies or illness.\r
\r
Background: \r
Oleksandrivska hospital urgently needs medical instruments and other equipment to operate on patients with cardiovascular diseases. This equipment is currently not available on the Ukrainian market. Generators are also needed because the power supply in Kyiv is not stable. \r
\r
Activities:\r
-\tPurchases of operating theatre instruments, other medical equipment and generators for the hospital \r
in Kyiv\r
-\tTraining (online and in person) for medical, technical and nursing staff in the treatment of \r
cardiovascular diseases, including reconstructive cardiovascular surgery and pacemaker implants\r
-\tAn expert board comprising Ukrainian and German participants hold telemedicine-based meetings \r
\r
Results:\r
The support offered through this project enables the hospital in Kyiv to provide faster and better care for patients with cardiovascular disease. The number of cardiovascular operations is expected to more than double. Telemedicine systems allow the Ukrainian medical team to discuss the diagnosis and treatment of difficult cases with German colleagues. \r
