The partnership between the German association, Unterstützung der medizinische Versorgung in Ghana e.V., and the King’s Medical Centre focuses on the establishment of hygiene standards and the improvement of treatment methods in the Ghanaian partner hospital.
Problem: In Ghana, tradition and culture play a significant role in health care. Traditional medicine is therefore widely practiced and new treatment methods are not easily accepted by the population, particularly by those in rural communities.
Main Activities: The partners develop and implement hygiene standards for the various departments of the King’s Medical Centre. Selected hospital personnel will be trained how to implement and guarantee the hygiene standards. They will then disseminate the information and transfer their knowledge to other colleagues.
Short-Term Effects: The development and utilization of a hygiene concept leads to improved quality of care among patients as well as reduced rates of infection at King’s Medical Centre.
Long-Term Effects: Long-term effects will include the improvement of therapeutic care among rural populations in northern Ghana through the establishment of operational standards.
