The joint project of Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Université Evangélique du Cameroun aims to improve prevention of new SARS-CoV-2 infections and optimise diagnosis and treatment of Covid-19 in Mbouo, Cameroon. This will be achieved by implementing WHO recommendations and Cameroonian guidelines for the covid-19 pandemic, as well as by adapting concepts established in Germany to the Cameroonian context.
The hygiene and isolation measures are to be implemented by training the staff of Mbouo hospital, by procuring suitable protective equipment and by establishing structural-organisational measures to optimise the existing covid-19 treatment center at the hospital.
Context-adapted information sessions on prevention measures of SARS-CoV-2 infection will be conducted for the local population and students of the Evangelical University.
In addition to measures to optimise detection of new infections, such as temperature and symptom screening, and to raise public awareness, the diagnostic confirmation of SARS-CoV-2 infections through testing will be improved.
The treatment of Covid-19 patients at Mbouo Hospital will be ameliorated by training the intensive care unit staff as well as by upgrading the so far inadequate equipment in the intensive care unit.
