Improving rehabilitation medicine in Ukraine\r
\r
The BG Kliniken hospitals, Berlin’s Charité hospital, the Hanover Medical School and the Moldova Institut Leipzig are working with the Superhumans Center in Lviv and the Ukrainian Ministry of Health to improve rehabilitation medical care in Ukraine.\r
\r
Background:\r
In addition to acute care, Ukrainian soldiers and civilians injured in the Russian war of aggression require rehabilitative care. Ukraine currently lacks the necessary capacities to provide this care, especially for complex traumas such as amputations, paraplegia, hand injuries and burns. Interdisciplinary treatment concepts have not yet been established in rehabilitation medicine.\r
\r
Activities:\r
-\tFour-week clinical attachments for doctors, physiotherapists and occupational therapists in rehabilitation facilities of the BG Kliniken hospitals and the Hanover Medical School, followed by online coaching \r
-\tDevelopment of a training concept and treatment standards with a focus on amputations and hand injuries\r
-\tOngoing medical education and training in line with the needs of the Ukrainian partner institutions\r
-\tAcquisition of rehabilitation medical equipment to ensure that the techniques and treatment standards learned can be implemented\r
-\tSupport for the establishment of a Ukrainian network for rehabilitation medicine, including holding a conference \r
\r
Impact: \r
Thanks to the transfer of knowledge between Germany and Ukraine on rehabilitation medicine, the care provided to injured soldiers and civilians can be improved. The nationwide network for rehabilitation medicine enables and promotes an exchange among medical specialists in the short and long term. \r
