The project under the initiative for returned refugees being implemented jointly by Bad Sachsa and PHI Special Hospital for chronic psychiatry Modrica aims to optimise out-patient care for patients with psychiatric and psychological disorders.
It also aims to improve public understanding about psychological and psychiatric disorders in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Background:
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, psychological and psychiatric disorders continue to be low-priority issues because medical care for physical diseases is considered to be more important. This means that patients with mental disorders usually receive pharmaceutical treatment and often have to wait a long time before they can be admitted for in-patient treatment. This places families under a great deal of strain and leads to affected persons being economically and socially marginalised.

Activities:
-\tTraining of physicians, social workers and nursing staff in outpatient and social-psychiatric care
-\tTraining in trialogues and role play as the professional basis for care
-\tDevelopment of concepts for creating self-help groups

Impact:
Training courses and self-help groups create new opportunities for dialogue and treatment. Involving families and taking account of a patient’s social setting, will increase acceptance of mental health issues and the exchange of information will serve as a basis for establishing outpatient care structures.
