The continuation of the partnership begun in 2018 between the University Hospital Regensburg and Dhulikhel Hospital in Nepal aims to improve hygiene at the Nepalese hospital and reduce hospital infections through the training of hospital staff.
Background:
The enormous growth of Dhulikhel Hospital has caused hospital hygiene standards to slip in recent years. However, good hygiene conditions are the basic requirement for providing optimum medical care and preventing hospital infections. In addition to structural and material conditions, human resources are particularly important. Infections can only be prevented if staff are given training in hospital hygiene and hygiene plans are introduced.
Activities:
- Training further hospital staff in hospital hygiene with the help of a structured curriculum
- Evaluating measures that have already been implemented and identifying problem areas
- Expanding the existing surveillance system for hygiene measures further
- Drawing up hygiene plans
Impact:
Hygiene conditions are to be improved in the long term with the help of ongoing training. Trained employees are to serve as multipliers in future and pass on the knowledge that they have acquired.
