The project partners, the Hamburg-based association VIMZ e.V. and the Amana Regional Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, have set themselves the goal of optimising maternal and child care in Dar es Salaam.
Problem: In Tanzania, infant and maternal mortality remains high. There is a high level of demand for expertise needed during perinatal medical care.
Main activities: The assisted project focuses on knowledge-sharing between medical staff from the Amana Regional Referral Hospital and the participating hospitals in Hamburg. Reciprocal visits allow German and Tanzanian professionals to work side by side, thus deepening their knowledge on hospital hygiene and maternal and child care.
Short-term results: The Amana Regional Referral Hospital efficiently implements newly acquired knowledge about hospital hygiene and care during childbirth and passes it on from professional to professional.
Long-term results: Improved perinatal care reduces maternal and infant mortality at the Amana Regional Referral Hospital.
