The partnership between Marafiki wa Masasi - Partnerschaftsverein Enzkreis - Masasi\/Tansania e.V. and Mkomaindo Hospital\/Masasi Town Council seeks to make two new operating theatres at the hospital ready for use by training Tanzanian health professionals specifically in the use of new medical equipment.
Context:
The high demand for operations in Masasi led to the construction of a new building designed for operations between 2019 and 2022. In order to commission the two newly equipped operating theatres, Tanzanian specialists now require training in how to operate the equipment. Awareness of hygiene practices and surgical procedures is also required for the building to be used as intended.
Activities:
- Checking of the new equipment by both project managers to ensure that they function properly
- Training doctors and nurses in the use of anaesthesia machines
- Equipping the Tanzanian partner with digital communication tools
- Providing an introduction to the handling, preparation and sterilisation of surgical instruments
- Drafting of training materials and checking the qualifications of the specialists
Results:
The use of two new operating theatres will allow more patients with a wider range of illnesses to receive medical treatment in Masasi. Exchanging information on operation hygiene and modern treatment processes improves the outcomes of surgical procedures.
