The partnership between the Robert Koch Institute in Germany and the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka, pursues the goal of introducing new opportunities to swiftly diagnose Dengue fever. The partner hospital is the largest specialist hospital in Gampaha District near the capital city. It operates under the aegis of the state.

Problem: Because of the lack of a diagnostic options, patients contracting Dengue in Sri Lanka are often not treated until it is too late, resulting in life-threatening secondary damage.

Main activities: Protect partners jointly devise courses for medical staff at the partner hospital. Training courses familiarise participants with various laboratory tests. The laboratory at the partner hospital will be re-equipped to provide for the rapid identification of infections with Dengue.

Short-term results: Dengue patients are to be diagnosed and treated rapidly in the partner hospital with the help of modern diagnostic procedures.

Long-term results: The early detection of an infection with Dengue is to increase the chances of survival of victims.
