The hospital partnership between Yen Bai General Hospital and the Marienstift Arnstadt’s orthopaedic centre aims to improve treatment options for patients needing joint replacement in the northern mountainous region of Viet Nam.
Context:
Joint replacement surgery involves specialist orthopaedic care which requires the doctors to have a sound training and excellent operative skills. Viet Nam’s ageing population means there is an increasing need for operations to replace worn or ill-fitting joint prostheses. These operations are currently not very well established in Viet Nam.
Activities:

Result:
Teaching specific skills has resulted in an expansion of operational options at Yen Bai General Hospital. Patients who have received treatment suffer less pain as a result of better fitting joint prostheses.
