The project aim of the cooperation between the Community of Sant'Egidio e.V. Würzburg and the DREAM-Associação is to protect the patients and medical staff of the HIV center Centro comunitario polivalente in Beira, Mozambique, and of an HIV partner center in the district Manga Chingussura against SARS-CoV-2 infections. The project partnership also focuses on protecting the patients at the two HIV centers from malnutrition.
The target groups of the project are about 11,000 patients and about 70 medical staff members of the two HIV centers Centro comunitario polivalente and Manga Chingussura.
Project activities include monthly trainings for medical staff on COVID-19 infection prevention as well as the implementation of awareness campaigns for the surrounding population on the risks of SARS-CoV-2 infections and protective measures. The medical staff and high-risk patients will also be provided with protective clothing. Furthermore, standardised monthly food aid will be provided for HIV patients with chronic malnutrition, pregnant women with HIV and patients with HIV\/TB coinfections of the two HIV centers in order to ensure food security.
