The hospital partnership between the association Fi Bassar e.V. and the Centre Hospitalier Prefectoral C.H.P. Bassar hospital in Togo is working to improve the physical equipment and hygiene standards in the Togolese health facility.
Problem: In the region around the hospital in Bassar, water supplies are short, resulting in low hygiene standards. There is also a lack of diagnostic equipment.
Main activities: The partnership is procuring equipment including a steriliser, a water purification plant and an instrument steriliser. Staff at the hospital in Bassar will be trained to use this new equipment. In addition, a 14-day trip for doctors and staff of the hospital team in Nürnberg will enhance the sharing of knowledge and experience among experts.
Short-term results: Hygiene standards are to be improved in the hospital in Bassar.
Long-term results: A long-term improvement in hygiene is to be achieved, which will reduce overall mortality and the post-operative death rate.
