The partnership established in 2018 between the Charité University Hospital Berlin and the Hassan II University Cancer Center Ibn Rochd in Casablanca aims to enhance the prevention and treatment of gynaecological tumours with the aid of improved clinical care. To this end, the structures that have been put in place to date are to be built upon and extended to other departments in order to ensure that cancer patients are given comprehensive care.
Background:
Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer mortality in Moroccan women. Although cervical cancer can be treated with the help of early screening, the country lacks effective screening programmes, treatment guidelines and quality assurance measures. The implementation of these elements could reduce mortality from cancer by up to 80%.
Activities:
-\tMonitoring the methods for the screening and diagnosis of cervical cancer at every clinical location
-\tEstablishing standard procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer
-\tPreparing appropriate quality criteria for screening and diagnosis
Impact:
With the help of optimised screening and treatment procedures, the prevention methods for cervical and ovarian cancer are to be improved so that affected patients can receive comprehensive cancer treatment. The long-term aim is to reduce the mortality rate for gynaecological cancers in Morocco.
