The project objective of the hospital partnership between Apotheker ohne Grenzen Deutschland e.V. and St. Maurus Hanga Abbey is to ensure drug management at the St. Bernard Hanga Health Centre in Tanzania.
Background:
The majority of financial support in Tanzania goes to central hospitals. However, since patients there incur high treatment costs and often have to travel long distances, smaller private facilities such as the St. Bernard Hanga Health Centre play a key role in the health care of the surrounding population. These people do, however, suffer from deficits in the supply of medication, which is why the processes of drug stockpiling have to be optimised and training courses on the safe use of medications have to be carried out.
Activities:
-\tProviding on-the-job training to pharmacy staff
-\tProviding training to staff from the health centre on pharmaceutical matters
-\tProviding proportionate financial support for the purchase of medicines
-\tDeveloping a strategy for the independent financing of the health centre without external aid
Impact:
Targeted training courses aim to safeguard the supply of medicines in the Hanga region.
By stocking up the Health Center with the medicines and resources that it requires, the aim is to also guarantee long-term access to adequate healthcare for the population.
