The partnership between the Germany-based association Afghanisch Deutscher Ärzteverein Weimar e.V. and the Afghan organisation Health Efficient Treatment Organisation HEALTHTO pursues the goal of improving medical training at universities in Afghanistan across the board.
Problem: In Afghanistan the training available at faculties of medicine has glaring gaps. Working doctors have few opportunities to attend further training or professional development. There is a lack of courses and it is difficult to get foreign volunteers to provide training because of the continued fighting in the country.
Main activities: For e-learning, the subject matter of courses is communicated using electronic devices such as mobile phones or tablets. Rooms are being established at two faculties of medicine, where students have free access to the programmes. Programmes can also be downloaded there on to a phone or a tablet, where they are available even without an internet connection. Regular exams are to check the learning progress of students.
Short-term results: Medical training at the partner universities is to be supplemented in a positive manner by the programmes.
Long-term results: The Afghan health system is to be strengthened by ensuring that doctors are better trained.
