The hospital partnership between Klinikum Kulmbach and the state primary hospital in Bichena, Ethiopia, aims to improve emergency medical care at Bichena Primary Hospital through further training measures. Background: Basic medical care in the primary hospitals of the Amhara region, Ethiopia, is not guaranteed due to a pronounced lack of medical equipment and manpower. The Bichena Primary Hospital is not an attractive employer for medical professionals due to operational inadequacies in the various departments and its rural location. Activities: - Equipment of the emergency department and training of health staff in the use of defibrillators, ultrasound and monitor equipment - Further training of medical and nursing staff in the use of fast track sonography for initial emergency medical diagnosis Impact: The capacities of Bichena Hospital have been sustainably strengthened and the staff of the emergency department has been trained in fast track sonography. This reduces the mortality rate of patients treated in the emergency department of Bichena Primary Hospital.
