The partnership between the German association Operieren in Afrika e.V. and the Association Teel-Taaba de la Sissili was established in 2006. Through the expansion of health facilities and further education opportunities for personnel, they aim to improve the access to quality medical care in Burkina Faso.
Problem: The West African country of Burkina Faso faces major challenges in terms of health care in view of high mortality rates among mothers and pregnant women. Pregnancy and birth complications in combination with limited access to surgical health services, such as Cesarean sections, leads to serious consequences for many patients.
Main Activities: Within the educational campaign, health personnel from the Clinique Sedogo are trained in surgical techniques, hygiene, and treatment standards. The educational campaign is thematically comprehensive and covers visceral and pediatric surgery in addition to gynecology, urology, and anesthesia.
Short-Term Effects: Through the foundational training of hospital staff, a more qualified treatment for patients can be achieved.
Long-Term Effects: In the future, primary surgical care should be ensured and expanded to the execution of more complex operations.
