The aim of the partnership project between the Community of Sant’Egidio in Germany and the DREAM-Associação in Beira, Mozambique, is to improve the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), as well as reducing cervical cancer among HIV patients.
Problem: The high rates of HIV infection in Mozambique are posing huge challenges. Only half the population has access to treatment for HIV and associated diseases.
Main activities: Within the scope of the project, training is offered to activists working in the field of HIV education, while advanced training is available to doctors on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of NCDs. In addition, medical equipment (e.g. blood pressure measuring equipment and weight and height scales) are to be procured and screening introduced for cervical cancer.
Short-term results: Doctors and activists working for the DREAM-Associação are to be trained in HIV-associated diseases.
Long-term results: The care available to HIV patients at the HIV centre in Beira is to be enhanced.
