The hospital partnership between the University Hospital Cologne and the University of Dschang aims to strengthen the capacities of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Dschang and the affiliated Dschang District Hospital (DDH).
Background:
Despite government efforts, the public health services in rural areas of Cameroon are of a poor quality, and the doctor-patient ratio is one of the lowest in the world, with one doctor for every 12,500 patients. That is why the training of medical experts is crucial, yet there is a lack of suitable training institutions.
Activities:
- Holding workshops for postdoctoral students and lecturers from the University of Dschang at the University Hospital Cologne
- Developing an adapted medical syllabus in order to implement the training modules in the best possible manner
- Setting up a skills lab and a one-week workshop on the development of interprofessional skills
Impact:
The preparation of suitable teaching and training plans at the University of Dschang and the close collaboration with the district hospital is designed to help improve training for aspiring doctors and optimise health care in the Dschang region.
