The goal of the hospital partnership between Diakoneo KdöR and Faraja Hospital Himo is to provide basic and advanced training for physicians and nursing staff in the area of clinical emergency care in Himo, Tanzania.

Background:
Tanzania’s Ministry of Health underlines the need for qualified hospital workers. In the area of emergency care in particular there is a shortage of both materials and of medical expertise for identifying and treating acute emergency patients. Filling this gap requires training courses.

Activities:
-\tResidency in Germany for a Tanzanian colleague who works as a trainer in Tanzania
-\tTraining of physicians and nurses in anatomy, physiology, the ABC protocol and neonatal life support
in Tanzania
-\tTraining in advanced life support for adults and children, advanced anatomy, physiology and
pathophysiology

Impact:
The train-the-trainer principle enables training in Tanzania to be conducted by the Tanzanian colleagues in the long term and knowledge and skills can be imparted to students. The knowledge that has been disseminated can be used across disciplines in the field of medicine as a whole. The measures learned in training can thus directly influence in-hospital patient mortality and morbidity.
