The partnership project between Kirinda Hospital and the Deutscher Gemeinschafts-Diakonieverband e.V. aims to provide training programmes for young Rwandan surgeons and anaesthetists.
Background: No gynaecological operations have ever been performed to date at Kirinda Hospital. Although an operating theatre is available, the hospital needs further materials and training for doctors in order to achieve a basic level of gynaecological care.
Activities: -\tProviding training on surgical techniques and instruments for the target group of local doctors and nursing staff -\tConducting preoperative consultations in the first two days to review the ability to operate -\tRunning a training programme for young Rwandan surgeons and anaesthetists at Kirinda Hospital, using joint operations and relevant training
Impact: The training courses are designed to teach basic surgical and anaesthesiological techniques as well as the fundamental elements of nursing care for patients. The long-term goal is to guarantee a basic level of gynaecological care throughout the region.
