The partnership between the German association, For-Eritrea e.V. and the National Health Laboratory in Eritrea hope to achieve a common goal; to increase reliability of diagnostics through the strengethening of histopathology in the entirety of Eritrea.
Problem: Eritrea faces many challenges in regards to tissue and cell diagnostics. The country neither has a singular trained pathologist nor has the necessary technical equipment to conduct diagnostics. Therefore, reliable and prompt diagnoses are very limited.
Main Activities: Foremost, the partnership project has acquired the necessary technical equipment. The Eritrean laboratory personnel also obtains training for the operation of the equipment. Tele-medicine supports continued diagnostic operation.
Short-Term Effects: Through the partnership project, the Department of Histopathology is being developed. Thus, diagnostic capacity and histological examinations is increased.
Long-Term Effects: The long-term vision is the establishment of a functioning and efficient laboratory for tissue and cell diagnostics, which will be independently run by Eritrean personnel.
