The cooperation between the Pfalzklinikum and the Hôpital Neuropsychiatrique Caraes Ndera in Rwanda focuses on enhancing psychological care. A programme is to be elaborated that takes into account the socioeconomic and cultural context of Rwanda and focuses on help towards self-help and healing.
Problem: Ndera Hospital is the only facility in Rwanda that currently focuses on mental health, psychiatric care and neurology.
Main activities: The partnership provides for developing an appropriate advanced training programme, which Rwandan psychiatrists and psychologists are to undertake in Rwanda and in Germany. A ‘buddy programme’ is also to be introduced.
Short-term results: Rwandan psychiatrists and psychologists can attend advanced training specifically
adapted to the Rwandan context.
Long-term results: The quality of psychological care in Rwanda is to be improved.
